EODT Ethics Program Honored by Ethisphere Institute

Lenoir City, TN – The ethics and compliance initiatives of EOD Technology, Inc. (EODT) are being honored for being among the best of more than 1,000 federal contracting companies studied by an independent institute that encourages sound business practices, it was announced today.

EODT is a recipient of a top rating in the category of, “Best Overall Government Contractor Ethics Program,” following a study by the Ethisphere Institute. The rankings will be published in the first quarter issue of Ethisphere Magazine, available nationally March 15th.

Researchers from the Ethisphere Institute analyzed more than 1,000 Federal Government contractors as part of the 2008 ratings. The ratings take into account new Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) rules regarding U.S. government contractors’ ethics programs, key Federal Sentencing Guidelines “hallmarks” for effective compliance programs and industry best practices.

The Institute scored companies based on their ethics programs, which were reviewed through an online questionnaire, along with information voluntarily provided by the participants. Quality assurance of responses were verified through random audit and review.

EODT was rated as #27 in Best Ethics Program Overall. In related rankings the firm was ranked #7 in Best Private Company Ethics Programs, #4 in Best Small Company Ethics Programs, and #5 in Internal Control Systems.

“We are delighted by the recognition of EODT for its ethics and compliance program” said Lt. Gen. USMC (Ret.) Jan Huly, an EODT Advisory Board member. “But our journey is just beginning as we continue to focus on fully integrating business ethics and conduct into everything we do as a company. We believe the Government will recognize this commitment and the improvements that result from it as indicative of the type of company it prefers to do business with.”

The Institute’s rankings were based on an objective analysis of four categories:

r Code of ethics and business conduct

“Oftentimes, government contractors are portrayed in a negative light in the news because of a few bad apples’ actions,” said Alex Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute. “While there are some contractors to whom ethics means little, we have found that there are many more who rightfully pride themselves on their ethical business practices.” Mr. Brigham added: “In undertaking this exhaustive research and ranking we have found the opportunity to highlighted companies that have taken proactive measures to implement the proper controls, culture and programs to communicate company values and prevent unethical behavior. They should be a shining example to others in the industry.””

EODT Supports Continuation of McClellan Work

February 8, 2007, Lenoir City, TN - EOD Technology, Inc. was awarded a $4 million firm-fixed-price contract by the McClellan Joint Powers Authority to perform munitions removal on property that was once a part of the Fort McClellan Army base near Anniston, Alabama. The contract is a continuation of existing cleanup work at the now closed base.

Fort McClellan is a former military training facility and was one of the principal chemical and biological warfare training centers for the Department of Defense during its period of operation. Fort McClellan was officially closed in 1999 and the McClellan Joint Powers Authority (JPA), an unincorporated, nonprofit association, was created to redevelop the property and transform it into an active part of the Anniston area community. Redevelopment-related activities at Fort McClellan have been on going since the facility’s closure.

This munitions removal project will address Munitions and Explosives of Concern that might remain on the property from previous Army training activities. EODT’s staff of nearly 60 munitions experts, management, and support personnel will perform the removal effort that encompasses two areas of the fort: Munitions Response Site 1; and Southern Alpha Munitions Response Site, a combined area of approximately 125 acres. The project is estimated to be completed by June 2007.

EODT also performed munitions clearance at Fort McClellan in 1999 in support of Eastern Bypass highway construction project. When asked about EODT’s return to Fort McClellan, EODT’s CEO Matt Kaye stated, “We are excited to begin what we hope will be a long-term relationship with JPA in which EODT supports the Authority in achievement of their redevelopment goals for the McClellan property.”

EOD Technology, Inc. is headquartered in Lenoir City, TN, employs approximately 450 people worldwide with $186 million in revenues for 2006. The employee-owned company is an industry leader for Munitions Response, Security Services, and Critical Mission Support.

EODT Receives Two Project Awards from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

December 29, 2006, Lenoir City, TN - EOD Technology, Inc. was awarded two projects by the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville under the worldwide Munitions Response Services and Other Munitions-Related Services contract, a contract held by EODT since 2004.

The projects call on EODT to perform a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) at two Formerly Used Defense Sites, the former Five Points Outlying Field in Arlington, Texas, and the former Camp Claiborne, near Alexandria, Louisiana, under separate task orders. Both sites were used by the Army to train Soldiers and Airmen during the 1940s and early 1950s.

Because of the military activities once conducted at these locations, the Former Five Points Outlying Field and the Former Camp Claiborne sites present a potential munitions-related risk. Through the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process, the Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, and EODT, as the munitions response contractor, work to address the potential hazards associated with munitions contamination at such sites. The Five Points Outlying Field and the former Camp Claiborne sites have reached the RI/FS phase within the CERCLA process, the stage at which the site’s contamination is located, identified, and quantified and a method is devised for cleaning up the site. The Corps of Engineers’ Fort Worth District is the regional district responsible for managing both projects.

Since 1992, the Corps of Engineers and EODT have worked closely to respond effectively to the challenges associated with addressing munitions contaminated sites. Involving and educating the community and stakeholders and understanding and mitigating munitions-related risk are just some of the capabilities required to execute these projects successfully and at which EODT is skilled at delivering to its customers.

EODT's UXO/landmine clearance effort on this project is substantial with two separate mine fields and 300,000 square meters requiring demining and clearance within 51 calendar days. A full force of deminers, labors, and operators will work nearly round the clock applying their expertise to perform the clearance.
EOD Technology, Inc. Awarded Significant IT Infrastructure Contract in Iraq

The Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq (MNSTC-I) has selected EOD Technology Inc. (EODT) as prime contractor for the Iraqi Defence Network (IDN) Communications Project. EODT was selected from eight competitive proposals. The IDN will provide a nationwide, robust, reliable, and secure data network for the Iraqi Ministry of Defence, which will assume full operational control in 2008. The scope of the program is extensive, involving the installation and support of a satellite-based voice and data network linking Iraqi military command/control centers, Iraqi support bases installations, and Iraqi military hospitals. More than 50 sites, each with its own wireless local network, will be linked in the initial phase of the program, each with VSAT, VOIP, and local networks. More than 500 VOIP systems and 10,000 computers are anticipated to be linked. The resulting system will enable the Iraqi Ministry of Defense to integrate voice and data for operational, logistics, and financial decision makers.

The scope of EODT's services includes site surveys, network installation, system and component configuration, cyber-security, bilingual training, parts and labor warranty, and 24/7 technical support.

Matt Kaye, EOD Technology CEO commented "This award recognizes the exceptional work we have completed in support of MNSTC-I and the Iraqi Ministry of Defence over the past year. We are both gratified and challenged by this award, knowing that it lays the IT backbone for Iraq as it continues its reconstruction efforts. I am sure our team will exceed the already high performance requirements that MNSTC-I and the Iraqi Ministry of Defence have come to expect from us."

Headquartered in Lenoir City, Tennessee, EODT is an employee-owned firm specializing in Critical Mission Support, Munitions Response, and Security Services.

Iraq Ministry of Defense Increases EODT Information Technology Program Contract by $20 Million

EOD Technology, Inc. (EODT), a Critical Mission Support and Site Redevelopment firm based in Lenoir City, TN, recently received a $20M increase to its contract to provide IT support to the Iraq Ministry of Defense (MoD) through the Multinational Security Transition Command – Iraq (MNSTC-I). The scope of services under the contract includes Voice and Data Operations and Maintenance, specifically telecommunications engineering support, equipment, training, network administration, and logistics support and maintenance.

This $20M increase in the Voice and Data Operations and Maintenance contract attests to EODT’s superior performance executing IT support tasks for MNSTC-I. Julio E. García, RN, MD, Health Affairs Policy Health Advisor for MNSTC-I, made the following statement in reference to EODT’s performance on this contract: “I can honestly tell you I never experienced such a high degree of professionalism, expertise, and focus on customer satisfaction in the 40 years I spent on Active Duty.”

What's Banned at the Airport (WHNT News story)

Click here to view the original article at Huntsville, Alabama Channel 19 WHNT.

NewsChannel 19's Janine Reyes Reports

All airports across the nation are at an orange security alert and Huntsville International Airport is no exception.

A handful of flights were delayed Thursday night as travelers got used to the new security measures.

There is a strict no liquid and gel rule whenever you fly for now. That means shampoos, lotions, sports drinks, hair gels and even toothpaste are restricted from your carry on luggage.

Passengers flying into Huntsville say once you get used to the rules, they aren't that bad but some travelers like Marylin Johnson did have to leave stuff behind to get here.

"I had to fly without an essential oil that I use, lavender, for travelling, but they wouldn't let me and I knew that and I didn't want to throw it away so I packed it in my check in baggage," she said. Johnson and her son are from Los Angeles, they were flying to Huntsville to get her son ready to attend UAH. She told us what should have been a five hour flight turned into 12, but she didn't mind giving up the extra time for safety.

There are a few exceptions to the no liquid rule, but not many. Baby food and formula will be allowed along with prescription medications matching the travelers name. The TSA suggests this rule of thumb: if you're unsure, don't try to take it on the plane. No word on when or if these new guidelines will change.

So why exactly are things like shampoo and sports drinks not allowed?

Patrick Anderson, an explosives expert with Huntsville's EOD Technology Incorporated, told us its not because they're typically used for explosive bombs.

"Its not likely someone's going to make a bomb out of shampoo itself or lotion itself but there are substances, explosive substances, that can be placed into these containers that could appear to be the shampoo or the lotion," Anderson said. He said even with a very small amount of liquid explosive, extensive damage can be done on a plane full of passengers.

Both Anderson and Johnson agreed, the headaches of travelling liquidless are worth the security.

"If people should have to give up a few freedoms to be safe, I think that's a responsibility we should accept," said Anderson.

"This is how is should be from now on," Johnson told us, "we took a precaution and its a good thing."

EODT Camp Wheeler Project Receives Locke L. Mouton Award for Excellence in Community Relations

In June 2006, a Community Relations Program developed and implemented by EODT, a Critical Mission Support and Site Redevelopment firm based in Lenoir City, Tennessee, was awarded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Locke L. Mouton Award for Excellence in Community Relations. The award was made to the Community Relations program at the former Camp Wheeler site in Macon, Georgia, and all its participants: the USACE Huntsville Division as contracting agency, the USACE Savannah District as program sponsor and manager, and EODT as program developer and implementer. The Camp Wheeler project is part of the Army’s Military Munitions Removal Program (MMRP) that is intended to clean up formerly used defense sites throughout the country.

The Camp Wheeler project is led by EODT Project Manager Tiffany Midyett with full-time support from Public Relations Specialist Robin Hawn. EODT adds value to the community by first integrating community leaders and members into project decision-making to ensure that community as well as project objectives are met; then by maximizing community resource utilization by hiring local subcontractors who support the local economy; and also by leveraging opportunities to help the residents throughout the project with extensive brush cutting and scrap pile removal.

This added value has taken many forms including the County Commissioner’s assistance with obtaining 100% right-of-entry agreements; the local Sheriff’s Department’s help with temporary home evacuations; and individual homeowner’s help gaining project support and consistent evacuations. All of these efforts have helped EODT and the Corps of Engineers get the job done as safety, quickly, and efficiently as possible.

Chris Cochran, Project Manager for the Huntsville Corps of Engineers stated, “Robin Hawn and Tiffany Midyett with EODT are doing a wonderful public relations job because they really care about helping the residents. The residents are so grateful to have us in there that they make brownies for the field workers and leave them on the porch before they evacuate their house. At the Public Involvement meeting a month ago, people were hugging me and giving the team pats on the back. I have never seen this happen before.”

EODT Wins NATO Contracts in Iraq and Afghanistan

EOD Technology, Inc., a Critical Mission Support and Site Redevelopment firm based in Lenoir City, TN, was recently awarded two contracts to support NATO’s security transition missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. EODT will provide canine services in Iraq at the Iraqi Military Academy at Ar Rustamiyah and Battle Area Clearance services at a construction site near the Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan. These contracts support NATO’s security objectives in these locations. To EODT, the award of these highly-competed projects means that our services have been successfully marketed to a new customer that will have future use for our entire range of services.

In Iraq, EODT will provide six highly trained teams of explosive detection dogs (EDD) and security dogs, along with trained handlers, to patrol multiple gates at Ar Rustamiyah. EODT’s teams are tasked with protecting base security, providing explosives detection in vehicles and packages, and on personnel entering the base, and in buildings, facilities, and grounds. EODT has a full service kennel in-country and has significant experience providing canine teams for explosive detection and security purposes in many areas of Iraq and other countries. We are currently among the largest providers of EDD canine teams in the world.

At Kabul International Airport, EODT will perform Battle Area Clearance (BAC) to support NATO. EODT will clear munitions and landmines from land that is a part of the airport subjected to military use and conflict over the last several decades. EODT Munitions and Mine Action experts will respond to the contamination by applying their proven processes and procedures for safe removal of explosive hazards. EODT is accredited by the United Nations Mine Action Center and Mine Action Organization in Afghanistan to perform this work.

Since expanding its global footprint and service offers, and taking on and successfully executing projects of increasing complexity, EODT has become a low-risk choice for customers like NATO throughout the world for Critical Mission Response services. Matt Kaye, President of EODT stated, “We are excited about our relationship with NATO and our opportunity to support NATO as a customer in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters.”

EODT’s international presence delivers superior value and assurance to its customers through repeat performance.
