EOD Technology, Inc. Receives UN and Afghanistan Accreditation for Mine Action

Mar 30, 2006

EOD Technology, Inc., is a Critical Mission Support and Site Redevelopment firm based in Lenoir City, TN. On March 30, 2006, EODT became a United Nations Mine Action Center licensed and accredited Mine Action Organization in Afghanistan with other operations in Sudan and Iraq. This accreditation gives both EODT and post-conflict countries the opportunity to remove a significant threat through Mine Action response.

Landmines and stockpile munitions kill an estimated 15,000 individuals, primarily children, each year worldwide. Perhaps the greatest problem that landmines and munitions present is that they can remain active for many years after a conflict has ended and continue to kill and seriously injure native civilians indiscriminately. In addition, post-conflict contamination impacts the environmental stability of an area and often contributes to soil degradation, deforestation, and pollution of water resources with heavy metals.

Mine Action provides for a solution to post-conflict contamination. Mine Action eliminates the post-conflict hazard through manual demining, EOD response, abandoned ordnance and stockpile destruction, the use of Military Mine Detection Dogs (MDD), and mechanical response - all services accredited and provided by EODT. Through these safe and proven-successful Mine Action methods, EODT removes post-conflict hazard across the globe.

Mine Action has the potential to give a post-conflict country more than safety and peace. Mine Action often allows displaced refugees to return home safely, schools and hospitals to be reopened, and land to be rebuilt for farming and critical infrastructure. Terry Collins, Program Manager for EODT’s Mine Action program, stated, “As of 2004, Costa Rica, Djibouti, El Salvador, Kosovo, and Moldova were all declared mine safe and have benefited immeasurably as a result. EODT wants to do our part to help all post-conflict countries still contaminated with ordnance and landmines to achieve mine-safe status. This is a serious issue that we have the capability to resolve.”

EODT’s full and permanent accreditation ensures that they comply with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) requirements, deploying its Mine Action resources throughout the world. EODT’s Mine Action personnel are UN-certified and compliant with EOD level qualifications. As a part of their Mine Action program, EODT also uses single-purpose Explosive Detection Dogs (EDDs), as well as dual-purpose explosive detection and patrol K-9s, which are trained to military proficiency standards and are compliant with IMAS.
