EODT Supports Continuation of McClellan Work
Feb 8, 2007
February 8, 2007, Lenoir City, TN - EOD Technology, Inc. was awarded a $4 million firm-fixed-price contract by the McClellan Joint Powers Authority to perform munitions removal on property that was once a part of the Fort McClellan Army base near Anniston, Alabama. The contract is a continuation of existing cleanup work at the now closed base.
Fort McClellan is a former military training facility and was one of the principal chemical and biological warfare training centers for the Department of Defense during its period of operation. Fort McClellan was officially closed in 1999 and the McClellan Joint Powers Authority (JPA), an unincorporated, nonprofit association, was created to redevelop the property and transform it into an active part of the Anniston area community. Redevelopment-related activities at Fort McClellan have been on going since the facility’s closure.
This munitions removal project will address Munitions and Explosives of Concern that might remain on the property from previous Army training activities. EODT’s staff of nearly 60 munitions experts, management, and support personnel will perform the removal effort that encompasses two areas of the fort: Munitions Response Site 1; and Southern Alpha Munitions Response Site, a combined area of approximately 125 acres. The project is estimated to be completed by June 2007.
EODT also performed munitions clearance at Fort McClellan in 1999 in support of Eastern Bypass highway construction project. When asked about EODT’s return to Fort McClellan, EODT’s CEO Matt Kaye stated, “We are excited to begin what we hope will be a long-term relationship with JPA in which EODT supports the Authority in achievement of their redevelopment goals for the McClellan property.”
EOD Technology, Inc. is headquartered in Lenoir City, TN, employs approximately 450 people worldwide with $186 million in revenues for 2006. The employee-owned company is an industry leader for Munitions Response, Security Services, and Critical Mission Support.
